Saudi Arabia signed an agreement worth around 266 million U.S. dollars online with China on Sunday for 9 million novel coronavirus tests.
Under the agreement, China will also send 500 medical experts and technicians to Saudi Arabia to help Saudi Arabia to conduct the tests.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, supervisor-general of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), said that supplies from China will be used to build six large-sale labs and one mobile lab in Saudi Arabia; after the labs are set up, they will conduct 50,000 coronavirus tests every day and carry out 9 million tests in total.
He said the tests will help a lot in the genetic map analyses for COVID-19 prevention and control.
He said the cooperation shows the long-standing good relations between China and Saudi Arabia and once again proves the consensus that quick response boosts international anti-epidemic actions reached between the leaders of the two countries.
Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Chen Weiqing also attended the signing ceremony, saying that China and Saudi Arabia, as real friends and good partners, have set a good example for international anti-epidemic cooperation.
Chen said he believes that the two countries will ultimately defeat the epidemic and usher in a better and brighter future through joint efforts and close cooperation.
According to figures given by Saudi Health Ministry on Sunday afternoon, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached 17522, with 139 deaths and 2,357 cured and discharged from hospital.
