Storyline

China's highest standard container berth was put into use at the Beishan Port area of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in east China's Zhejiang Province on Friday, as it received the largest container vessel on earth.

The No.7 Berth is a 200,000 ton-class container berth with a total length of 459 meters and a width of 59 meters.

The HMM Algeciras, the world's container ship with 23,964 TEU containers, will set off for Europe along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road after it unloads 1,106 containers and loads 4,745 containers at the port.

"We've prepared eight cranes to unload containers and 12 to 16 gantry cranes to assist in the operation. The entire process will be completed in 24 hours," said Ren Xiaobo, general manager of the Ningbo Meishandao International Container Terminal Co., Ltd.

The Meishan Port Area is an important part of the efforts to make the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port the world's top-notch port. It will build 10 container berths and one vehicles roll-on and roll-off berth. The No.6 and No.7 berths are the highest standard 200,000 ton-class container berths.

Three more berths are still under construction. After completion, the annual container throughput of the Meishan Port Area is estimated to exceed over 10 million containers.
