Storyline

China firmly opposes irresponsible criticism and blames on the draft decision to establish and improve a legal framework and enforcement mechanism for safeguarding national security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), which was submitted to the third session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) for deliberation, said a spokesperson of the Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR on Saturday.

The spokesperson said that in recent years, especially since the the outbreak of the storm of revision in Hong Kong, Hong Kong "independence" and radical separatist forces have become increasingly rampant, and violent terrorist activities have been escalating. Some foreign and overseas forces have colluded with anti-China rabble-rousers in Hong Kong, blatantly meddled with Hong Kong affairs, and used Hong Kong to engage in activities that endanger China's national security. They have posed a grave challenge to the red line of the "one country, two systems" principle, and a real and major danger to China's national security. Therefore, it must be prevented, stopped and punished in accordance with the law.

The spokesperson pointed out that the relevant laws to be stipulated by the NPC are aimed at secession, subversion, terrorism, external interference and other acts undermining national security. It will in no way harm the rights and freedoms enjoyed by Hong Kong residents in accordance with the law, but enable the Hong Kong people to better exercise their legitimate rights and enjoy freedoms in a safe environment. The "one country, two systems" principle will remain unchanged, as well as the high degree of autonomy in the HKSAR, and the interests of foreign investors in Hong Kong will continue to be protected in accordance with the law. When the national security is effectively safeguarded, "one country, two systems" will surely achieve sustained and steady progress, and Hong Kong is bound to develop better and better. This serves the common interests of the international community.

The spokesperson reiterated that safeguarding national sovereignty is exercising the sovereignty of a country and the legitimate right of all countries, and enacting national security laws falls within the state's legislative power. While talking about nothing but "national security", some countries have been obstructing and sabotaging China's efforts in maintaining sovereignty and security for no reason. This is complete double standards and logic of bandits!

The spokesperson sternly warned these politicians that no matter how they lie, the mainstream public opinion of patriotism, love for Hong Kong, pursuing stability in the Hong Kong society will never be changed, and no matter how severe the distortion, slander, incitement, threats, or blackmail could be, the Chinese people will never waver in their will and determination to defend national sovereignty and security!

The spokesperson emphasized that the politicians' conspiracy to split, subvert, infiltrate and sabotage China's sovereignty by using anti-China rabble-rousers as pawns and Hong Kong as a frontier is doomed to fail.

The spokesperson urged relevant countries to respect China's sovereignty, observe international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's other internal affairs.

The spokesperson also urged the international community to correctly view China's just moves to safeguard national security and put Hong Kong back on the right track, support China's efforts on fully and accurately implementing the "one country, two systems" principle, and to maintain Hong Kong's prosperity and stability together with all Chinese people including those in Hong Kong.
