3. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Zhao Lijian, spokesman, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"The national security legislation for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is purely a matter of China's internal affairs and no foreign country has the right to interfere. The Chinese government is firmly resolved to safeguard its national sovereignty, security and development interests, implement the 'one country, two systems' principle, and oppose external interference in Hong Kong affairs. The U.S. attempt to obstruct China's efforts to advance the national security legislation for Hong Kong by imposing so-called 'sanctions' is doomed to failure. In response to the above-mentioned U.S. wrong acts, China has decided to impose visa restrictions on U.S. individuals with bad records on Hong Kong-related issues."

China said on Monday it will impose visa restrictions on U.S. individuals with bad records on Hong Kong-related issues, after Washington announced visa restrictions on some Chinese officials over the special administrative region.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian announced the move at a daily press briefing while reaffirming China's determination to safeguard its national sovereignty, security and development interests as well as the "one country, two systems" principle.
