"By 24:00 June 29, our hospital admitted a total of four critically ill COVID-19 patents and 20 severely ill patients. They accounted for 7.4 percent of the COVID-19 patients we received during the latest outbreak in Beijing, that is remarkably lower than the proportion back in the January-April period. Among them, one used extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) treatment, three used ventilators with invasive mode for support, three used ventilators with noninvasive mode, and 17 patients received high flow nasal oxygen. Twenty-two patients in critical and severe illness used plasma that were collected from recovered patients, and 19 of them have seen symptoms alleviated. So far, one critically ill patient has eased to severe illness and 16 severely ill patients have seen symptoms alleviate into moderate illness."

Beijing is seeing a generally stable and improving situation of COVID-19 control, but is still in the most crucial moment to curb the spread of the virus, a local official said on Tuesday.

Xu Hejian, director of the Information Office of the Beijing municipal government, told a briefing that the epidemic situation in capital Beijing at the moment is generally stable and improving, but remains grim and complex.

"It is still the most crucial moment to curb the spread of the virus," he said.

Beijing reported seven new infections in the past 24 hours, and all the patients were people under quarantine, according to Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

"From 0:00 to 24:00 June 29, Beijing reported seven new COVID-19 infections. Among them, six are male and one is female. With an average age of 55, the youngest one ages 27, while the oldest ages 70. Breaking it down in accordance with the place of residence, six were reported from Fengtai District, while one was reported from Daxing District," said Pang.

Since June 11, Beijing has seen 16 patients in severe illness alleviate to moderate illness, said Wu Guo'an, vice president of the Beijing Ditan Hospital affiliated to the Capital Medical University.
