The main structure of the novel coronavirus has not changed which is in favor of the research and development of vaccine, said Wu Zunyou, chief epidemiologist of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Friday.
Wu made the remarks in a video interview with the China Central Television (CCTV).
There have been some media reports about the mutation of the virus which have raised public concern. Wu said the changes of the virus so far have not affected the main structure and thus is beneficial to the vaccine research.
"The novel coronavirus is monitored every month around the world. For the virus itself, small changes to its amino acids are happening all the time. But these changes are not enough to change the structure of the virus. The main structure of the virus has not changed, which is a very good news for vaccine research and development," said Wu.
