A solemn flag-raising ceremony was held on Saturday to mark the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), which falls on Aug 1.
In the first light of the day, the PLA Guard of Honor and a military band performed the national flag-raising duty, hoisting the five-star red flag over the Tian'anmen Square.
The responsibility for guarding China's national flag and firing salute cannons at the Tian'anmen Square was transferred to the Chinese People's Liberation Army from Jan. 1, 2018, as authorized by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Before that, the ceremony was conducted by the armed police.
