"China supports relevant companies in taking up legal weapons to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, and will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises."

4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Zhao Lijian, spokesman, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"I want to stress two points over the fallacies of some U.S. politicians you mentioned earlier. Firstly, some U.S. politicians made a murderous attack on Chinese apps like TikTok and WeChat and Chinese companies like Huawei. The root cause is that they harbor hostility towards anything related to China and are attempting to impose ideological labels on Chinese companies. These people are 'hunting' TikTok and other Chinese companies under the guise of national security and are full of lies and slander, which are in essence bullying and looting. Secondly, some U.S. politicians' unscrupulous actions against TikTok and other Chinese companies amount to organized and systematic economic bullying against non-U.S. companies that have the upper hand in certain fields."

6. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Zhao Lijian, spokesman, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"These companies are all industry leaders and exceptional international market players. Some U.S. politicians harbor fears toward the rise and success of non-U.S. companies, hence they never hesitate to wield state power to suppress them in every possible way. This is a denial of the market economy and fair competition principles that the United States has touted all the way through. It also goes against international rules and torpedoes exchanges and cooperation in sci-tech innovation in line with the wave of globalization. The whole world will only get a clearer picture of the looting and robbery by the U.S. individuals."

Storyline

China said on Monday that it supports relevant companies in taking up legal weapons to safeguard their rights and interests after video-sharing platform TikTok confirmed it would file a lawsuit against the Trump administration.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a daily briefing that China will continue to take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.

The United States is looking to ban several Chinese applications, including TikTok, and popular messaging app Wechat, and has also stepped up its attack on Chinese tech giant Huawei.

U.S. president Donald Trump on Aug 6 issued an executive order banning any U.S. transactions with ByteDance -- TikTok's parent company -- starting in 45 days. On Aug 14, Trump signed another executive order, telling ByteDance to divest its interest in U.S. TikTok operations within 90 days.

In response, ByteDance announced Saturday that it would challenge the executive order through the judicial system.

On July 21, a group of U.S.-based WeChat users filed a complaint against Trump in a bid to block an executive order that would ban transactions with the app.

At the press briefing, Zhao decried U.S. economic bullying against non-American companies.

"Firstly, some U.S. politicians made a murderous attack on Chinese apps like TikTok and WeChat and Chinese companies like Huawei. The root cause is that they harbor hostility towards anything related to China and are attempting to impose ideological labels on Chinese companies. These people are 'hunting' TikTok and other Chinese companies under the guise of national security and are full of lies and slander, which are in essence bullying and looting. Secondly, some U.S. politicians' unscrupulous actions against TikTok and other Chinese companies amount to organized and systematic economic bullying against non-U.S. companies that have the upper hand in certain fields," said Zhao.

The whole world will only get a clearer picture of the looting and robbery by the U.S. individuals," he said.
