The China-EU leaders' meeting on Monday produced fruitful achievements in multiple fields, said Chinese Ambassador to the European Union (EU) Zhang Ming on Tuesday.
Chinese President Xi Jinping co-hosted a China-EU leaders' meeting Monday evening in Beijing via video link with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose country currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, European Council President Charles Michel, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In an interview with China Central Television (CCTV), Zhang noted that three important achievements were made in the leaders' meeting.
"The first achievement is that the two sides announced the formal signing of the China-EU Geographical Indications Agreement. The second is that the two sides confirmed that they will speed up negotiations of the China-Europe Bilateral Investment Agreement and complete the negotiations within this year. The third is the decision to establish a high-level dialogue on the environment and climate, as well as high-level dialogue in the digital field to create green partnerships and digital partnerships between China and Europe," he said.
Zhang explained that geographical indications (GIs) are a distinctive sign used on products that have a specific geographic origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. The GI agreement will greatly benefit both sides, he added.
