Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday sent a congratulatory message to Yoshihide Suga on his election as Japanese prime minister.
In his message, Xi pointed out that China and Japan are friendly neighbors and are both important countries in Asia and the world. To develop long-term, stable, friendly and cooperative China-Japan relations is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples and conducive to peace, stability and prosperity of Asia and the world at large.
The two sides should abide by the principles set out in the four political documents and the four-point principled consensus between China and Japan, actively promote the building of China-Japan relations in line with the requirements of the new era, bring benefits to the two countries and peoples, and make positive contributions to safeguarding world peace and promoting common development, Xi said.
On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang also sent a congratulatory message to Suga on his election as Japanese prime minister, saying that China is ready to work with Japan to strengthen friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation in various fields and jointly push for new and greater development of bilateral relations.
