"China's development in the past few years has proved that it can make progress during its transition from quantitative growth to high-quality growth. And we can see that the Chinese government, market and enterprises have made great efforts over the past few years, making the economic structure become more rational and economy develop in a more balanced manner."

"Firstly, it is green development. As is known to all, the concept of 'lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets' has long deeply rooted in the heart of the people. And China has taken a lot of measures to promote the development of a green economy. In 2015, China joined the Paris Climate Agreement. After that, it completed many goals ahead of schedule. Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a solemn pledge that China will strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Given China being the world's second largest economy, it's a remarkable pledge. If China can smoothly achieve its goal of carbon neutrality, China's role in the world's efforts to cut carbon emission and realize carbon neutrality is self-evident."

"[Secondly,] when it comes to poverty relief or inclusive development, China has made remarkable achievements. Some simple data show that the size of the poverty-stricken population in rural areas stood at some 5 million in 2019 while that in 2015 was 56 million. This year, China will eradicate rural poverty, which is also a remarkable achievement."

"Last, it is smart development. No doubt that China has led the world in smart and digital economy. We can see that the digital economy has played a big role in the economic recovery in China during the COVID-19 epidemic. I believe China will make continuous progress in these three respects. And that's why I say China will play a positive role in helping the world realize high-quality economic recovery and development for some time to come."

China will make its positive contributions to the world's high-quality economic recovery and reconstruction in the post-coronavirus era, according to Zhang Tao, deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday.
Highly praising China's significant role at a time of crisis, Zhang made the remarks in an exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) in response to the IMF projection that the global economy is forecast to contract sharply by 4.4 percent this year while China is the only major economy that has registered positive growth, against the backdrop that the whole globe is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
"China's development in the past few years has proved that it can make progress during its transition from quantitative growth to high-quality growth. And we can see that the Chinese government, market and enterprises have made great efforts over the past few years, making the economic structure become more rational and economy develop in a more balanced manner, " said Zhang.
According to Zhang, China's contributions are three-pronged in aspects of environment, poverty relief and smart development.
Some simple data show that the size of the poverty-stricken population in rural areas stood at some 5 million in 2019 while that in 2015 was 56 million. This year, China will eradicate rural poverty, which is also a remarkable achievement," he told the CGTN.
"Last, it is smart development. No doubt that China has led the world in smart and digital economy. We can see that digital economy has played a big role in the economic recovery in China during the COVID-19 epidemic," Zhang said.
Zhang said he believes China will make continuous progress in these three respects, which are the reasons why China will play a positive role in helping the world realize high-quality economic recovery and development for some time to come.
