"I think it's the common objectives and the common models, are more or less the same. Healthcare, e-commerce, education, so they are very common models that can be applied successfully in other parts of China. A political party can play a very important role, after all their aim is to help the people and to serve the people. We have political parties in our country, and their main objective is to make people's lives better so that they can have a better livelihood. It's all about serving the people."

I was very touched to see how the party, how the community, how the government worked together to change the life of the people. You could see how happy they are, the smiles in their face and the hope in their face."

Storyline

Just before the seventh National Poverty Relief Day which fell on Saturday, more than 30 diplomatic ambassadors to China went to Chixi Village in east China's Fujian Province, searching for the secrets to poverty alleviation.

More than 30 years ago, Chixi Village was a well-known poor village. Now it has turned into a picturesque leisure village. With the help of the government, Chixi villagers developed a series of tourism and ecological agriculture projects. They started to make money by developing tourism while protecting the local environment.

Firm conviction and hard work are the two expressions that described the ambassadors' feelings during their visit to Chixi Village. An emphasis on education and developing the characteristic tourism industry is the Chinese poverty alleviation pattern that ambassadors saw in Chixi.

Many envoys said that they are glad to have had the opportunity to visit Chixi Village and are well informed of Chinese stories of poverty alleviation. The success of Chixi Village proves the feasibility of China's poverty alleviation model and they hope to continue to learn from China's poverty alleviation experiences in the future.

Many envoys also said that the smiles on the faces of local villagers proves that China has achieved remarkable results in poverty alleviation.

It's all about serving the people," said Tapusalaia Toomata, ambassador of Samoa to China.

"It was very impressive and amazing from what we could see, and from what we could read, what we were told and what we can see now in terms of the changes in the lives of the people, especially in the village of Chixi where we went. I was very touched to see how the party, how the community, how the government worked together to change the life of the people. You could see how happy they are, the smiles in their face and the hope in their face," said Maria Gustava,Mozambique's ambassador to China.

The world today is facing many uncertainties and challenges. COVID-19 has exacerbated poverty in many developing countries. But the story of China's poverty alleviation convinced Maria Gustava that as long as people have a firm belief and keep going forward, they will surely shake off poverty.

This year marks the 45 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mozambique. Talking about the diplomatic relations between China and Mozambique, Maria Gustava said, "China is a true friend to us and there is trust, and the two people have been together for a long time, so we can do a lot still together."
