Storyline

A fire burst out in a chemical plant Monday morning in east China's Zhejiang Province and local firefighters have brought it under control, no casualties have been reported as yet.

The fire blazed up at around 11:00 in workshops and warehouses of Zhongtian East Fluorine Silicon Material Co., Ltd in Quzhou City. All the ten fire stations in Quzhou rushed to the site for rescue and relief while four specialized firefighting teams with professional equipment came for reinforcement later from neighboring cities of Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou and Jinhua.

Plant workers and local residents were timely evacuated.

By 15:25, the fire was basically brought under control as blazes in the silicone adhesive workshop and warehouses were put out, and the firefighters conducted the final push to extinguish the fire.

Big fire has resulted in the rise of air pollution index (API), which is twice to eight times higher than usual, according to the local environmental protection administration, but it needs further detection to tell whether there are toxic chemicals in the air and residents living downwind have been evacuated.

Firefighting robots fought at the forefront this time as they are smoke-proof and could eject non-soluble foam to put out flaming liquid in the plant, which also prevented firefighters from inhaling fatal gas.

Wastewater has been collected for unified treatment and the fire has not affected the neighboring high-speed rail, according to the local government.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
