Sudanese officials made an inspection tour of the reception areas for Ethiopian refugees on Friday and said that a number of measures have been taken to provide urgent aid.

Thousands of Ethiopian refugees crossed into the Sudanese territory to escape the Tigray conflict. The states of Gedaref and Kassala, bordering with Ethiopia, received about 11,000 Ethiopian refugees, including the sick and wounded.

Humanitarians have been anticipating the arrival of an increasing number of refugees due to the exceptional circumstances in Ethiopia, so they have called on competent authorities to count and register those in Sudan.

The Sudanese authorities need to identify the refugees' urgent needs, assign special segments in the area, provide medical and health services for women and children, and take all preventive measures to prevent the spread of diseases. It also requires a plan to safely transfer refugees to camps and shelters through the security coordination between the regular forces of the two states.

The Tigray conflict is an ongoing civil conflict that began in November 2020 in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia, between the Tigray regional state special forces and the Ethiopian National Defense Force.
