And we are the first country in the EU to receive Sinopharm vaccine. We try to save lives and preserve the economy, and we are fighting together with our Chinese friends against COVID. So I just would like to underline again it's a very important day for Hungary, it's a very important day for us."

Hungary received its first batch of 550,000 doses of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday.
Officials from the Hungarian government and Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Qi Dayu welcomed the vaccine's arrival at the Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport at around 10:00 local time.
Tamas Menczer, state secretary from the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the top priority for Hungary is to save lives, and the Chinese vaccine will play a key role.
"It's a very important day for us. It's a very important day for Hungary. We started the cooperation with our Chinese partners and with the Chinese government last September, October. And we are the first country in the EU to receive Sinopharm vaccine. We try to save lives and preserve the economy, and we are fighting together with our Chinese friends against COVID. So I just would like to underline again it's a very important day for Hungary, it's a very important day for us," said Tamas.
Ambassador Qi expressed his hopes for the vaccine to help the Hungarian people as soon as possible.
"We hope the Chinese vaccine will help Hungary revive the economy and defeat the epidemic as soon as possible, and also get the country's production and people's lives back on track at an early date," said Qi.
The batch of vaccines is expected to vaccinate 275,000 people in Hungary.
Hungary is the first member country of the European Union (EU) to have approved China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine, sealing a deal for 5 million doses on Jan 29.
