Storyline

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the United States surpassed 27.8 million, with over 490,000 deaths on Wednesday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

The country's case count rose to 27,817,527 with 490,062 deaths as of 19:40 Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Wednesday, according to the CSSE tally.

The winter storm that has been battering the United States for days has delayed the vaccine shipments and disrupted the vaccination drive.

According to the local media, at least 15 states closed their vaccination centers due to the bad weather, with appointments being rescheduled.

The delivery and shipments of the COVID-19 vaccines would be possibly interrupted, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) predicted, as two FedEx facilities located in Memphis, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky are being affected by the blizzard over the next few days.

Local officials of Florida said that the state had planned to receive 200,000 doses of vaccine on Tuesday; however, they have yet made their way to Florida.

As for Missouri, it has canceled all the mass vaccination events from Monday to Friday due to the severe weather conditions.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday said that the state has less than 30,000 doses of vaccine left and might run out these vaccines within two days.

Against the backdrop, according to him, the city would postpone scheduling its vaccination appointments.
