China's State Council departments have handled 8,108 National People's Congress (NPC) motions and 4,115 Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) proposals in 2020, rolling out 1,500 measures to advance poverty eradication and improve health emergency management, said officials at a press briefing Tuesday in Beijing.

In the past year, the government has hit all its work targets in multiple areas, including social security management, urban life improvement, real estate market regulation, as well as food security and poverty eradication.

"In 2020, China renovated 40,300 residential compounds in old town areas, benefiting 7.36 million households while fulfilling the target set in the government work report with a total number exceeding the designated quota, which is 39,000 residential compounds," said Zhang Xiaohong, vice minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

Amid the pandemic, food security and epidemic prevention and control came into the limelight. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said the country's control of epidemic disease among animals was generally stable last year.

In 2020, 19 cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) were reported in China, which led to the culling of 14,000, a significant decrease compared with previous years. In 2019, for instance, 63 cases of African Swine Fever were reported, and 390,000 were culled.

"We will strengthen monitoring and early warning, implement the national animal epidemic monitoring plan, increase the intensity of monitoring, guide and support the local governments to carry out key animal epidemic monitoring work," said Liu Huanxin, the vice minister.

With this year's Two Sessions upcoming this week, the government says it will continue to hear the voices from the people and take actions to materialize more motions and proposals for the well-being of the people.
