China-Xi/BRICS Business Forum/Peace
Beijing, China - June 22, 2022 (CCTV - No access Chinese mainland)
1. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Xi Jinping, Chinese President:
"History tells us that peace, which is a common cause of humanity, should be pursued and defended by all. Only when we all cherish and uphold peace and never forget the painful lessons of war, can there be hope of peace. Facing a volatile and unstable world, we should stay true to the pledge of the U.N. Charter and fulfill the mission of maintaining peace."
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for joint efforts to seek and safeguard peace when addressing the opening ceremony of the BRICS Business Forum via video link.
History has shown that hegemony, group politics and bloc confrontations would bring neither peace nor stability, but rather war and conflict, Xi said in a keynote speech delivered at the event.
The Ukraine crisis has once again sounded the alarm for humanity: Countries will surely end up in security hardships if they place blind faith in their positions of strength, expand military alliances, and seek their own safety at the expense of others, Xi said.

Urging the international community to abandon zero-sum game and jointly oppose hegemony and power politics, Xi called for the building of a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, equity and justice, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
The forum, which fully demonstrates the vitality and attractiveness of BRICS economic and trade cooperation, was held in Beijing both online and offline, on the sidelines of the 14th BRICS Summit under China's chairmanship.
