More than 200 Fortune 500 companies and big Chinese companies have signed up for the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) set for Nov 5-10, according to the organizer.

The booth area for businesses at the second CIIE will be expanded to 300,000 square meters, said vice director of the CIIE bureau Sun Chenghai, adding that new technologies such as AR and VR, self-driving cars and the Internet of Things will make appearances.

"The scale is larger than that of the previous one, because the CIIE has drawn attention of the world. Last year, we planned an exhibition area of 210,000 square meters but we expanded it to 270,000 square meters later due to great enthusiasm and demands. This year, people also have great expectations for the CIIE, so we plan to increase the area of enterprise pavilions from 270,000 to 300,000 square meters," said Sun.

More than 1,800 companies have signed up for the CIIE. Over 900 companies from 77 countries and regions, including from 17 G20 members countries and over 30 countries related with the Belt and Road Initiative, have confirmed participation.

To meet the demands, Sun said they have also set up outdoor exhibition zones.

"We've also established outdoor exhibition zones this time while last year there were all indoor exhibits. The outdoor zones will exhibit large mechanical equipment and some vehicles. We will add indoor exhibition zones for high-end consumer products. These are all highlights of the CIIE," Sun said.

A total of 172 countries, regions and international organizations and more than 3,600 enterprises participated in the first CIIE, held Nov 5-10 last year in Shanghai, the world's first import-themed national-level expo.

Deals for intended one-year purchases of goods and services worth 57.83 billion U.S. dollars were signed at the first CIIE.
