China's GDP expanded 6.2 percent year on year in the first three quarters of 2019 to about 69.78 trillion yuan (about 9.87 trillion U.S. dollars), said an official from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday.

Mao Shengyong, spokesman of the NBS and director of its Department of Comprehensive Statistics, told a press conference that the national economy maintained an overall stability with better economic structure in the first three quarters.

"The overall operation of national economy was stable in the first three quarters, with the optimization of economic structure sustaining. The GDP of 69.7798 trillion yuan in the first three quarters was a year-on-year increase of 6.2 percent counted at a comparable price. In terms of quarter breakdown, it grew 6.4 percent in the first quarter, 6.2 percent in the second quarter and 6.0 percent in the third quarter," said Mao.

The spokesman said the added value of the primary industry was 4.3 trillion yuan, up 2.9 percent year on year, the added value of the secondary industry was 27.78 trillion yuan, up 5.6 percent year on year; the added value of the tertiary industry was 37.69 trillion yuan, up 7.0 percent year on year.

"Agricultural production is promising with a good harvest of autumn grain. The total output of summer grain and early rice was 168.01 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 606,000 tons. The autumn grain promises another good harvest with sound overall production. The total grain output of the whole year is expected to continuously remain at above 650 million tons, realizing an output increase," Mao said.

The industrial production sustained a growth with greater proportion of high-tech manufacturing.

The added value of above-scale industrial enterprises nationwide increased 5.6 percent year on year, Mao said.

Mao said the service sector grew fast with more modern services developing at a good momentum.

"In the first three quarters, the service sector continued to maintain a good momentum of development. The index of service production increased 7 percent year on year, with the growth rate in September at 6.7 percent, 0.3 percentage point higher than in August," said Mao.

China's GDP expanded 6.2 percent year on year in the first three quarters of 2019 to about 69.78 trillion yuan (about 9.87 trillion U.S. dollars), said an official from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday.

Mao Shengyong, spokesman of the NBS and director of its Department of Comprehensive Statistics, told a press conference that the national economy maintained an overall stability with better economic structure in the first three quarters.

The GDP of 69.7798 trillion yuan in the first three quarters was a year-on-year increase of 6.2 percent counted at a comparable price. In terms of quarter breakdown, it grew 6.4 percent in the first quarter, 6.2 percent in the second quarter and 6.0 percent in the third quarter," said Mao.

The spokesman said the added value of the primary industry was 4.3 trillion yuan, up 2.9 percent year on year, the added value of the secondary industry was 27.78 trillion yuan, up 5.6 percent year on year; the added value of the tertiary industry was 37.69 trillion yuan, up 7.0 percent year on year.
