Storyline

Experts from China and Chile discussed China's development experience and called for more exchanges and cooperation at a seminar held in Santiago, Chile on Monday.

Four scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) delivered speeches on China's new industrialization, ecological civilization, poverty eradication and global development initiatives, as well as the global significance of Chinese modernization, at the seminar on "China-Latin America Exchange and Mutual Learning in Modernization."

Dorotea Lopez, director of the Institute of International Relations at the University of Chile, said in her opening speech that the seminar focused on development and the global significance of Chinese modernization.

It is important to deepen Chilean people's understanding of China and promote academic exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, she said.

"In the future, we plan to establish a center for Chinese studies within the Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile. This center will host events aimed at encouraging our youth and academics to engage in more analysis, idea exchange, and focused study in this area," she said.

Zhang Yongsheng, director of the Institute of Ecological Civilization Studies in CASS, said CASS has long maintained close academic ties with the University of Chile.

Noting this seminar is an important part of CASS's effort to strengthen international academic exchanges and cooperation, including with Latin America, Zhang said it will promote a better understanding of China within the academic community of Chile and Latin America.

The seminar was jointly organized by the Secretariat of the National High-End Think Tank Council of CASS, the Institute of Latin American Studies and the Institute of International Relations of the University of Chile.

More than 100 professors and students from the School of International Relations of the University of Chile, as well as Chinese and Chilean international friends including Reyes Mata, former Chilean ambassador to China, attended the event.
