The United States is not a member of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, but it often poses as a judge of the convention, giving orders and meddling in and instructing other countries' internal affairs. The U.S. has also frequently sent large numbers of advanced warships and aircraft to the South China Sea for military reconnaissance and exercises, and illegally intruded into China's airspace, territorial waters and the sea and airspace near China's islands and reefs. Of course, U.S. diplomats have always unreasonably smeared China on occasions like the United Nations meetings. This was just another their routine show, and we have given them a strong refutation. I think the international community is well aware of the U.S. smear and false claims about China's positions. However, the United States can't deceive the international community. Just as we've said, the truth speaks for itself."

China's permanent representative to the United Nations Fu Cong on Wednesday rebuked the United States' groundless accusations against China and its bullying acts at a Security Council Arria-Formula meeting.

Fu reiterated China's principles and positions on multilateral trade, the South China Sea issue and the Taiwan issue.

"Regarding the remarks just made by the representative of the United States, I would like to make some simple responses. The first point I would like to emphasize is that China has always firmly supported the multilateral trading system, continuously expanded high-level opening up, constantly improved the socialist market economy system and legal system, and consistently leverage the decisive role of the market in allocating resources. Concerning the South China Sea issue, Fu said China has indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea islands and their adjacent waters, as well as sovereign rights and jurisdiction over relevant waters.

Fu stressed that China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea have sufficient historical and legal basis.
