2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Chen Xu, Chinese Permanent Representative to United Nations Office in Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland:
"Currently, the world is in a period of turbulence and transformation, where unilateralism runs rampant and bullying acts prevail. There remains a long way to go before achieving human rights for all. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the UN. All parties should abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and jointly uphold the authority and status of the UN. International human rights mechanisms, including the Human Rights Council, should adhere to the principles of universality, impartiality, objectivity, non-politicization, and non-selectivity to safeguard their credibility and reputation."

Chen stressed that there is no one-size-fits-all development path for human rights, and no country should impose its own model on others.
Noting that June 10 this year marks the first International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, Chen said that all parties should practice true multilateralism, respect the diversity of world civilizations, protect human rights through upholding security, promote human rights through development, and advance human rights through dialogue and cooperation.
Chen said such efforts are essential for the sound development of the global human rights cause.
