China will, as always, provide assistance and help to Cuba to the best of its ability, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

Lin made the remarks in response to a media inquiry about what form of assistance China would provide to Cuba amid fuel shortages.

"China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security, opposes external interference, and resolutely condemns any act and inhumane behavior to deprive the Cuban people of their rights to survival and development. China will, as always, provide support and assistance within its capacity to Cuba. As for the specific content of the assistance, it is recommended to consult with the competent authorities.
