Young women in Gaza Strip who lost their limbs during the conflict with Israel have formed Palestine's first amputee women's football team, with hopes of competing on the global stage next ear.

On a football field in central Gaza, the young women train on crutches. For them, football has become a path to recovery and a way to reclaim part of their normal lives.

Among them is 24-year-old Rozan Khaira. A former runner, she lost her leg during the war but refused to give up her passion for sports.

"I joined the team because I was already an athlete. Sports have been part of my life since childhood, and my family is also very at hletic. Losing my leg will not stop me from pursuing my dreams and favorite hobbies. On the contrary, I will continue," she said.

The team brings together young women rebuilding their lives after life-changing injuries. For many, the field has become a place to regain confidence and purpose.

"My injury changed my life completely. I used to work as a photographer and moved around freely, but today I cannot because of my injury. I saw the team online and decided to join. It encouraged me to prove that my life did not end because of my injury," said Kefah Al-Fakhouri, another amputee athlete.

The road has not been easy. Local sports activities and competitions have come to a halt during the war. Yet these players continue to train, hoping to build a new future.

"Our goal is not only to provide psychological support. We are also preparing for the Women's Amputee Football World Cup in Europe in 2027. We are racing against time to develop these players and help them compete at a level that represents Palestine with pride," said Fouad Abu Ghalyoun, coach of Palestine Women's Amputee Football Team.

According to the Palestinian Olympic Committee, the Palestinian sports community has lost nearly 1,000 athletes during the war, and more than 265 sports facilities have been destroyed across Gaza.

Gaza's sports sector has been hit hard by the war. Many facilities have been destroyed, while others now shelter displaced families. Yet Palestinian athletes, including those who have lost limbs, continue to pursue their dreams.

أسست نساء فلسطينيات في قطاع غزة، فقدن أطرافهن خلال الصراع مع إسرائيل، أول فريق كرة قدم نسائي من ذوات الإعاقة في فلسطين، ويأملن في المشاركة في المنافسات العالمية العام المقبل.

وعلى ملعب كرة قدم في وسط غزة، تتدرب النساء الشابات مستعينات بالعكازات. بالنسبة لهن، أصبحت كرة القدم طريقًا للتعافي ووسيلة لاستعادة جزء من حياتهن الطبيعية.

ومن بينهن روزان خيرة، البالغة من العمر 24 عامًا. كانت عداءة سابقة، وفقدت ساقها خلال الحرب، لكنها رفضت التخلي عن شغفها بالرياضة.

وقالت: "انضممت لهذا الفريق لأنه أنا بالأصل كنت عداءة. والرياضة كبرت معي من الطفولة. أنا من عائلة رياضية من والدي وعمي وأخواتي البنات والشباب، فهذا الأمر كبر معي منذ كنت صغيرة. والبتر لم يوقفني عن حلمي وعن مستقبلي وعن هوايتي المفضلة، لا بالعكس فأنا مستمرة فيها."

ويجمع الفريق نساءً شابات يعملن على إعادة بناء حياتهن بعد إصابات غيرت مسارهن بشكل كبير. بالنسبة للكثيرات، أصبح الملعب مكانًا لاستعادة الثقة والهدف في الحياة.

وقالت كفاح الفخوري، رياضية أخرى مبتورة الأطراف: "غيرت إصابتي حياتي تمامًا. كنت أعمل كمصورة فوتوغرافية وأتنقل بحرية، لكن اليوم لا أستطيع ذلك بسبب إصابتي. رأيت الفريق عبر الإنترنت وقررت الانضمام. لقد شجعني ذلك على إثبات أن حياتي لم تنتهِ بسبب إصابتي."

ولم يكن الطريق سهلا. توقفت الأنشطة الرياضية المحلية والمسابقات خلال الحرب. ومع ذلك، تواصل هؤلاء اللاعبات تدريباتهن، على أمل بناء مستقبل جديد.

Un grupo de jóvenes gazatíes que perdieron alguna extremidad durante la guerra de Israel contra la Franja de Gaza han formado la primera selección femenina de fútbol de amputadas de Palestina, con la mirada puesta en el evento mundial del próximo año.

En un campo de fútbol en el centro de Gaza, las jóvenes entrenan con muletas.

Para ellas, el fútbol se ha convertido en un espacio de resiliencia, recuperación y superación.

Entre ellas se encuentra Rozan Khaira, de 24 años. La joven, antigua corredora, perdió una pierna durante la guerra, pero se negó a renunciar a su pasión por el deporte.

"Me uní al equipo porque ya era deportista. El deporte ha sido parte de mi vida desde la infancia, y mi familia también es muy atlética. Perder mi pierna no me impedirá seguir persiguiendo mis sueños y mi afición favorita. Al contrario, seguiré adelante", afirmó.

El equipo reúne a jóvenes empeñadas en dirigir su propio futuro tras haber sufrido lesiones que cambiaron su vida. Para muchas, el campo se ha convertido en un lugar para recuperar la confianza y el propósito.

El camino no ha sido fácil. Las actividades deportivas locales y las competiciones se han paralizado durante la guerra. Sin embargo, estas jugadoras continúan entrenando con la esperanza de construir un nuevo futuro.
