A trapped driver in a road crash was rescued on Monday in Ji'an City, east China's Jiangxi Province, after a firefighter supported his upper body for half an hour to avoid secondary injury.
The accident happened at around 09:00 on Xiqiao Road in Taihe County. Two trucks crashed into each other and both overturned. One of the drivers was trapped in the cab because of the deformed front of his truck.
The local firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving the call. At the site, the trapped driver was lying in the cab and medical workers were dressing his wound. Subsequently, the firefighters quickly cut and cleaned the broken windscreen and removed the obstacles in the cab.
When the firefighters tried to carry the driver out of the cab, they found that the driver's knees got stuck, while his upper body could no longer get support from the seat. The driver's waist would have to bear his own weight if he lost support to his upper body, which might cause secondary injury to him. Becoming aware of this critical situation, a firefighter immediately squatted down to support the trapped driver's upper body with his back.
The firefighter supported the driver for half an hour, which left enough time for his colleagues to carry out following rescue operations. After careful dismantlement, the trapped driver was successfully rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment. Currently, he is out of danger and under further observation.
