Storyline


The Chinese mainland on Sunday reported 19 new imported COVID-19 cases, according to the data released by the National Health Commission on Monday.

Among the 19 cases, nine were reported from Sichuan Province, six found in Guangdong, and two in Beijing and Shanghai respectively. No new deaths or suspected cases related to the disease were reported.

On the same day, 27 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital upon recovery; 166 close contacts were cleared from medical observation, and the number of serious cases remained the same at one as the previous day.

By the end of Sunday, a total of 5,009 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Among them, 4,838 had been discharged from hospital following recovery, with 171 remained hospitalized. There was one imported suspected case. No deaths had been reported from the imported cases.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 89,912 as of Sunday, including 210 patients still receiving medical treatment, one of whom was in a severe condition.

A total of 85,066 patients had left hospital after recovery on the mainland, and 4,636 had died of the disease.

There was one suspected COVID-19 case on the mainland by the end of Sunday, and 4,715 of the 978,836 close contacts remained under medical observation.

Thirteen asymptomatic cases were newly reported Sunday, all arriving from outside the mainland. One imported asymptomatic case was re-categorized as confirmed case, and 15 cases, including 12 from outside the mainland, were released from medical observation.

A total of 254 asymptomatic cases were under medical observation, of whom 249 arrived from outside the mainland.

The health commission had accumulatively received reports of totally 12,008 confirmed cases from the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao and the Taiwan region by Sunday.

Of these, 11,005 cases including 199 deaths and 10,536 recoveries were reported in Hong Kong, 48 cases including 47 recoveries in Macao, and 955 cases, including nine deaths and 919 recoveries in Taiwan.

On Sunday, the Harbin City of Heilongjiang Province which had seen a virus recirculation in last few months released its last batch of COVID-19 patients from hospital. Upon the recovery of one imported case, one locally transmitted case and two asymptomatic ones, health authorities of Harbin announced that the city now has no more confirmed or asymptomatic cases of the disease in existence.

Meanwhile, Hebei Province's capital city of Shijiazhuang, lifted out of COVID-19 alerts gradually, will reopen its public entertainment venues such as cinemas, theaters, museums, gyms, and cybercafes starting from Monday. Local authorities have adopted strict anti-epidemic measures in response, requiring visiting appointments and setting limits of visitor numbers to divert flows in these places.
