China has remained the world's leading manufacturer for 11 consecutive years in a row with proportion contributing nearly one third of the global total, said Xiao Yaqing, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.
The minister made the remarks while presenting official data on the development of China's manufacturing industry during the 13th five-year plan period (2016-2020).
"China's industrial added value increased from 23.5 trillion Yuan to 31.3 trillion yuan, maintaining its position as the world's largest manufacturer for 11 consecutive years, accounting for nearly 30 percent of the world's manufacturing industry," said Xiao.
Xiao noted that China has made remarkable achievement in growing the high-tech manufacturing in the past five years.
"During the 13th five-year plan period, the average growth rate of high-tech manufacturing added value reached 10.4 percent, which was 4.9 percentage points higher than the average growth rate of above-scale industrial added value. And its proportion in above-scale industrial added value increased from 11.8 percent at the early stage of the 13th five-year plan period to 15.1 percent," Xiao said.
The added value of information transmission software and information technology service industry increased from about 1.8 trillion yuan to 3.8 trillion yuan with its proportion in GDP grew from 2.5 percent to 3.7 percent, said Xiao.
"We'll concentrate on enhance the stability and competitiveness of industrial chain and supply chain, and to improve the chains while launching reengineering of industrial base, to accelerate strengthening areas of weakness and extending advantages and to deploy emerging industrial chains, so as to made the chains more independent and controllable, and to effectively safeguard our economic security, to form new development advantages in the future, and to firmly hold the initiative in fierce global market competition," he said.
