Storyline


The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 24 new COVID-19 cases, including 13 imported and 11 local, the National Health Commission said Thursday.

Of the imported cases, nine were reported from Shanghai Municipality, and one each from Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Shaanxi.

All the 11 local cases were reported from southwest China's Yunnan Province, the commission said in its daily report.

No new deaths or suspected case were reported on Wednesday.

Nine cases were discharged from hospital and 381 close contacts were released from medical observation.

One new severe case was reported on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday, a total of 5,384 imported cases with no deaths had been reported on the mainland. Among them, 5,198 had been discharged from hospital and 186 remained in hospital, with one in severe condition.

There is one remaining suspected COVID-19 case.

By the end of Wednesday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 90,365, including 263 still being treated, with two in severe condition.

Altogether 85,466 patients had been discharged from hospital and 4,636 died, the commission said.

There is one suspected COVID-19 case remaining on the mainland, and 7,423 of the 994,852 tracked close contacts were still under medical observation.

On Wednesday, six new asymptomatic cases, including five from outside the mainland, and one from China's Yunnan Province, were reported.

Five asymptomatic cases, including two from overseas, were re-confirmed to be active cases and five asymptomatic cases, all from overseas, were released from medical observation on Wednesday.

The commission also said 291 asymptomatic cases, including 266 imported ones, were still under medical observation.

By the end of Wednesday, the State Health Commission had received report of 11,539 confirmed cases and 205 deaths from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 49 confirmed cases from the Macao SAR and 1,050 cases and 10 deaths from Taiwan.

A total of 11,163 COVID-19 patients in Hong Kong, 48 in Macao, and 1,004 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospital.
