Storyline

The young generation in China has been carrying forward the dedication spirit and making contributions in various fields to live up to their mission of realizing national rejuvenation.

As the vanguard for realizing the great rejuvenation of China, the young generation in China has encountered many difficulties that have never been seen before. However, pressure also promotes the growth of youth. In recent years, many outstanding young people have emerged in the country's fights against poverty, natural disasters and the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

Huang Wenxiu is a late village official. She worked as the Party chief of Baini Village in the city of Baise and had dedicated herself to the fight against poverty in the village.

Huang graduated from the Beijing Normal University in 2016. Giving up a well-paid job, Huang chose to become a grassroots official in her hometown Baise and later became the first female village Party secretary of Baini Village.

During her tenure, the size of local orange orchards expanded from 33 hectares to 133 hectares. The business attracted buyers from neighboring provinces, and an e-commerce service station was also built.

In June 2019, while Huang was heading back to the village after visiting her sick father over the weekend, she was trapped by a rainstorm in the mountains. Huang was found dead the next day at the age of 30.

She was granted the title of "Role Model for March 8th Red Banner Holder," a national honor granted to those who are regarded as role models for all Chinese women to follow.

Born in 1995 and enlisted in 2013, Mao Xiaochi serves as a platoon leader in a brigade of the 72nd Group Army. He was washed away by flood when fighting against flood in Lujiang county, east China's Anhui Province in 2020. When Mao was rescued 20 minutes later, he was in a coma.

Mao's comrade-in-arms recalled the dangerous moment and said Mao still kept other people's safety in mind when being washing away by flood.

"I was very close to him. At that moment, I stretched out my hand to pull him. He was holding a rope and if he gave me the hand, I think I was able to pull him back. The current was very strong at that time. If I held his hand, it was quite possible that both of us would be wash away by flood. I think that was the reason that he did not hold my hand," said a comrade-in-arms of Mao.

Apart from that, many young medical workers also acted bravely when the COVID-19 pandemic first broke out in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province.

Liang Shun, born in 1999, is a nurse at Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, one of the major battlefields amid the epidemic. He rushed back to Wuhan on the eve of the Chinese Lunar New Year to join his workmates in the brutal battle against the virus.

"On the Lunar New Year's Eve, my family prepared a big dinner including many delicious foods, but I left holding my backpack. I had to rush back to Wuhan before the road was closed at 17:00. A person who was on guard on the road said it was not allowed to go to Wuhan. I then told him that I was a nurse of Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital and I had to go back. He told me to be careful. He watched my car driving away. After arriving in Wuhan, I sent a message to the head nurse. I told her I had come back and asked her whether I needed to go back to work that night. I just worked for more than one year and had never experienced such a big public health emergency. At first, I dared not to enter the ward, I was so scared. But after I walked in wearing the protective suit, I was not afraid anymore. I had never been a coward in my nature. I raced against time to save patients from the hands of Death," said Liang.

As for the young people, the government and Chinese President Xi Jinping also attach great important to their growth.

On many occasions, Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, has expressed his confidence in young people and encouraged them to make greater contributions to national rejuvenation.
