Bilateral trade between China and Russia is expected to continue to expand in the next few years and the trade volume will reach 200 billion U.S. dollars by the end of 2024, said Russian President Vladimir Putin at a virtual meeting with heads of major international news agencies on Friday.
The media event was organized by Russia's TASS news agency on the sidelines of the 2021 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The trade volume between Russia and China reached 107.77 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, exceeding 100 billion U.S. dollars for the third year, according to statistics of China's Ministry of Commerce in January.
Stressing the importance of economic cooperation, Putin said Russia and China managed to keep bilateral trade at a level above 100 billion U.S. dollars for several years in a row, particularly in 2020 when there was an adverse impact brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I think that in the next few years, as agreed with President Xi Jinping, we hope Russia-China bilateral trade will continue to go up and the trade volume is expected to reach 200 billion U.S. dollars by 2024," said Putin.
