The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States surpassed 33.35 million as of Saturday, with the death toll exceeding 597,300, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
Specifically, the country's case count rose to 33,356,537, with the death toll reaching 597,365 as of 19:23 Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Saturday, the CSSE tally showed.
The United States still leads the world in the numbers of both confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths.
Significantly, over 299.8 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered across the United States by 19:23 EST on Saturday, the tally showed.
In the meanwhile, data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows the U.S. is reporting an average of only one million daily vaccinations as of Friday, lagging far behind the daily 3.3 million doses recorded in early April.
The data also suggests that some 63.2 percent of adults in the country have at least received one dose or more as of Friday morning, which is hard to meet the target set by the U.S. President Joe Biden of having 70 percent of adults vaccinated with at least one dose by July 4,
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky expressed her concerns on Friday as the number of hospitalized adolescents has increased since March in a statement..
Until they are fully vaccinated, adolescents should continue to wear masks and take precautions when around others who are not vaccinated to protect themselves, and their family, friends, and community, Walensky said.
