"For example, the allegation about the gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology has long been proved to be pure rumor. Secondly, among the bat samples collected by the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the one with the most similar sequence to that of the SARS-CoV-2 is RaTG-13. The two only have 96.2 percent homology. Another rumor is about man-made virus. Many scientists conducted in-depth analyses and their conclusion is that genome sequence of SARS-CoV-2 has no trace of man-made engineering. This fundamentally ruled out the possibility of a man-made virus."

6. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Zeng Yixin, deputy director, National Health Commission (partially overlaid with shot 7):
"No workers or researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology have been infected by the novel coronavirus. No gain of function studies were conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and no man-made virus claimed has been found. Where did the theory of virus leaking caused by violation of lab regulations come from? come from? Such a notion defies common sense, and is against science. WHO experts visited the Wuhan Institute of Virology themselves and their conclusion is that the lab leak possibility is 'extremely unlikely'. These experts are highly authoritative and professional experts carefully selected by the WHO. We should respect their conclusions."

Chinese deputy director of the National Health Commission Zeng Yixin said the "lab leak theory" defies common sense and is against science.
Zeng made the remarks on Thursday at a press briefing about origin tracing of the novel coronavirus.
Zeng first refuted rumors about the origin tracing process at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The origin tracing is an issue of science, and Chinese government always support that such a study should be carried out scientifically, and should not be politicized, said Zeng.
Zeng said that a clear conclusion has been made in the first phase of the WHO investigation into the origins of Covid-19 and no repeated investigation is necessary. He suggested the next phrase of investigation should be carried out in a wider range of countries on early case search, molecular epidemiology, and animal (middle) host.
The WHO announced the second phrase of COVID-19 origin study on July 15, listing the lab leak as a research objective.
