People like me who are from other parts of China will learn about Tibetan culture after they moved here. At the same time, people of the ethnic Tibetan group have also learned about the customs and hobbies of people from elsewhere."

As one of the two, I was assigned to Barkhor Street. For the past 27 years, I am indeed attached with the ancient city. So many people have witnessed the great changes that have taken place in Tibet over the 70 years since the region's peaceful liberation, and I am one of them. The Party and the government have a lot of supporting policies to Tibet. Our General Secretary is so amiable and he is the one that brings happiness to our lives. People of a variety of ethnic groups live here together uniting closely together. The big family is always prior to our small families. All China's 56 ethnic groups should hold closely together like pomegranate seeds."

Storyline

Residents from different ethnic groups from Barkhor Street, an iconic scenic spot in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, have been living harmoniously like families over the years, despite their distinct cultures, customs and life styles.

President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, on Thursday made an inspection tour of Lhasa, capital city of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

He also chatted with local residents in an intimate and cordial manner.

Barkhor Street, as a famous tourist attraction, is often packed with throngs of tourists and Buddhists worshiping at the Jokhang Temple.

Barkhor in the Tibetan language means a circular route. So Barkhor Street, as indicated by its name, is a circular ancient street and marketplace.

The street is not only a religious center, but also a business hub combining religious sites, sightseeing views, folklore establishments, cultural facilities and shops.

The one-km-long street is lined with shops and stalls. From religious objects to daily necessities, commodities of all kinds and from all parts of the world are on display.

"Here gathers a lot of shop owners like me. Though there is always business competition among the shops, but we are in very friendly relations. For me, I think we are like families. Other shop owners will give me food like Tibetan noodles, sweet tea, and butter tea to me as breakfast. Life and everything here just feels so comfortable," said Yang Xiaoxia, a shop owner.
