Storyline

Rural vitalization has advanced on all fronts in a northwestern Chinese village in Shaanxi Province after the villagers got rid of poverty.

Haojiaqiao is a village that sits in Suide County of Shaanxi. Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the village on Tuesday.

In the village, greenhouses in ravines have turned barren mountains into orchards, bringing new and tangible income to local villagers.

A vegetable farmer said that she can make 50,000 yuan to 60,000 yuan a year out of a greenhouse, while a grape grower said that a greenhouse can generate up to 100,000 yuan a year.

Since the 18th National Congress of Communist Party of China in 2012, the village has developed orchards, greenhouses, lamb and hog farming, as well as a photovoltaic power station, forming an industrial system that is composed of modern agriculture, breeding industry, photovoltaic power generation, and rural tourism.

In 2020, the per capita disposable income in the village reached 11,543 yuan, and the village received the honorary title of "national model for poverty alleviation" in February this year.

"Life is much better now. We do not worry about food nor clothing," said a villager.

"We eat well, live well, and dress well. Everything is good, this is what well-off society is, right?" said another.

Now, the village has its own primary school, a kindergarten, a nursing home, and a clinic, ensuring villagers access to childcare, elderly care, and medical services.

"The goal after poverty reduction is rural revitalization. We should roll up our sleeves to work harder, and things will get better and better year by year," said a villager.
