China's 14th National Games will officially open Wednesday evening in Xi'an City, capital of northwestern Shaanxi Province, with arrangement of the events aimed at better preparation for the Paris Olympics.

All the 50 Chinese Olympic champions who just made their triumphant return from Tokyo 2020 will compete in the Games, with media agencies fully prepared to present a grand audiovisual feast.

Notable sports stars at the National Games include sprint champion Su Bingtian, newly-named Chinese butterfly-queen Zhang Yufei, and the Chinese dream teams of table tennis and diving.

The Games also features Olympians from different provinces forming joint teams, which allows for high-level performances on the country's biggest sports stage.

"This year's National Games include all the 339 medal events of the Tokyo Olympics, and also stage disciplines including skateboarding, rock climbing, surfing and street dancing which will be added to the competition list of the Paris Olympics. We've also set young-age competition groups for some traditional dominant events such as diving and gymnastics. Such changes in arrangement of the events were aimed at finding and cultivating talent for the Paris event as soon as we can," said Liu Guoyong, director of the competitive sports department under the General Administration of Sport.

There will also be 19 sports for participation of the public, including four performance events of square dance, radio gymnastics, Health Qigong, and Tai Chi.

Breakdance and surfing will make their debut on the National Games arena, and breakdance athletes will advance round by round in one-on-one duels.

The opening ceremony will be held at the Xi'an Olympic Sports Center, highlighting the cultural embodiments of the historic city, with three chapters, namely the "Nation's Root", "Yan'an Spirits", and "Chinese Dream".

The venues of the 14th National Games have been keeping abreast with technological advancements and will feature 5G technologies, with a host of environment-friendly mechanisms.

The pomegranate flower-shaped Xi'an Olympic Sports Center, which takes the image of the city flower of Xi'an, together with the nearby sports complex and swimming and diving venue, are the main venues for the 14th National Games.

The main stadium is equipped with an international standard 400m track and an international standard football pitch. It is also the first stadium in China to achieve 5G coverage. Wi-Fi routers are installed on the back of many seats, enabling tens of thousands of spectators to access the Internet while in attendance. It can transform from an 1,800-square-meter basketball court to a curling competition venue within six to eight hours.

State broadcaster China Media Group (CMG) has sent multiple television production and technological support teams to Xi'an to cover the opening and closing ceremonies, and air match-day news of the National Games.

The on-site CMG team consists of about 450 TV and media experts who are working collaboratively in a 1,890-square-meter base to manage the abundant streaming resources and signals at hand.

"China Media Group has made full preparations and attentive rehearsals for live broadcast of the opening ceremony of the 14th National Games, aiming to deliver a multi-angle and multi-space presentation of the grand opening ceremony," said Liang Bing, a China Media Group director for live broadcast of the opening ceremony of the 14th National Games.

Xi'an City, during its four-year preparations for the 14th National Games, has quietly dressed up and become a metropolitan abound with green decorations and ever-upgrading modern infrastructure.

In July this year, the municipal government of Xi'an has finished building a green belt measuring 5.85 kilometers long and covering some 76 hectares of land, with over 50,000 trees greening up 85 percent of the area.

The public transportation system of Xi'an has seen rapid development in recent years, with the urban subway lines reaching an operating mileage of about 259 kilometers and 17 urban express lanes connected to 11 large-scale overpasses.
