Chinese astronauts Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming, and Tang Hongbo arrived in Beijing on Friday night after spending three months aboard the space station core module Tianhe.
The return capsule of the Shenzhou-12 manned spaceship touched down at the Dongfeng landing site in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region earlier in the day, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA). From there, the three astronauts, all in good health, boarded a chartered plane to Beijing.
Nie was the first to disembark at Beijing's Xijiao Military Airport, where he waved to the crowd waiting eagerly to greet the returned astronauts. Liu and Tang were then helped off the plane on chairs, as they must adapt to gravity after spending 90 days in space.
In China's capital, the astronauts were warmly received by officials, military officers, and their family members.
"Haisheng, Boming, and Hongbo, Welcome home! Thank you all for your hard work during the three-month stay in space," said Li Shangfu, commander-in-chief of China's manned space program.
With the help of medical staff and other assistants, the astronauts left the airport for Beijing Aerospace City.
The Shenzhou-12 manned spacecraft launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on June 17. The crew lived and worked on the space station for 90 days, the longest stay in space by Chinese astronauts.
