Storyline

The combination of the Shenzhou-13 manned spaceship and a Long March-2F carrier rocket has been vertically transferred to a launching site, and the spaceship is to be launched at an appropriate time, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said Thursday.

The facilities and equipment at the launch site are in good condition, and various pre-launch function checks and joint tests will be carried out as planned, said the CMSA.

"The advantage of vertical transfer lies in that the rocket and spacecraft could retain their technical status after testing in the technical area, thus minimizing state transition while saving the test preparation time to the launch area," said Liu Feng, deputy chief designer of the Long March 2F Rocket.

As the first rocket in Chinese space history with both emergency rescue and launch capabilities, the Long March-2F-Y13 rocket has been standing by at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center for months. With the Shenzhou-12 mission all wrapped up, this rocket no longer needs to be a plan-B, and it makes its debut today.

"I am the standby Commander Zero of Shenzhou-12 mission. Like the rocket, I shifted to the major position this time as well," said Wu Hua, Commander Zero of Shenzhou-13 mission.

The transfer process has almost wrapped up at 09:20. This means that the Shenzhou-13 spacecraft could be launched anytime. The mission will also send three taikonauts to the space station to begin their six-month stay in orbit.
