China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 0.7 percent year on year in September, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed Thursday.

The CPI fell 0.1 percentage points from August, indicating a generally stable supply and demand of the consumer market.

Food prices fell 5.2 percent, down 1.1 percentage points from the previous month.

Among food items, pork price dropped 46.9 percent. Increase of freshwater fish, eggs and edible vegetable oil prices have narrowed in September.

"Supply of major industrial and agricultural products and services in China is adequate, especially that of food and other important commodities that concern people's life. Therefore, since the beginning of this year, CPI has fluctuated modestly within a reasonable range," said Guo Liyan, head of the Office for Integrated Situation Studies under the Institute of Macro-economy.

Non-food prices increased by 2 percent. Among non-food items, the price of industrial consumer goods increased by 2.8 percent. Service prices grew 1.4 percent, with air tickets, travel agency fees and hotel accommodation prices rising by 15.7 percent, 8.7 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively.

In September, the price increase of industrial products continued to expand due to rising prices of coal and products of some energy-intensive industries.

The PPI in September rose 10.7 percent, up 1.2 percentage points from the previous month.

Non-food prices increased by 2 percent. Among non-food items, the price of industrial consumer goods increased by 2.8 percent. Service prices grew 1.4 percent, with air tickets, travel agency fees and hotel accommodation prices rising by 15.7 percent, 8.7 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively.

In September, the price increase of industrial products continued to expand due to rising prices of coal and products of some energy-intensive industries.

The PPI in September rose 10.7 percent, up 1.2 percentage points from the previous month.
