Chinese President Xi Jinping, said on Thursday that China, as a manufacturing powerhouse, must enhance self-reliance in energy amid efforts to develop the real economy.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military, encouraged oil workers to strive for new achievements when visiting a drilling platform in the Shengli Oilfield in Dongying City, east China's Shandong province.
Oil production is of great significance to the country, Xi noted.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the discovery of an oilfield in Dongying, which was later named Shengli Oilfield.
Noting that meeting core demand in oil and gas is an important task, Xi called for further exploration and exploitation, consolidating domestic production, and improving energy security.
He said resources must be pooled in to work on key and core techonology, speed up development and utility of clean and high-efficient energy, and improve quality and utilization efficiency of energy supply as well as carbon reduction level.
On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, Xi extended sincere greetings to the oil workers of the country.
Xi also hailed the oil front as a banner of the China's economic reform and development and called for greater contributions to the country's development through arduous and tireless efforts of all oil workers and experts.
