Storyline


Residents in Havana, capital of Cuba, held an activity on Wednesday to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the death of the revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.

Various commemorative activities will be held in provinces across the country in succession, in memory of the late Fidel Castro.

In the capital of Havana, 2,000 college students gathered at the gate of the University of Havana to commemorate the revolutionary leader with a theatrical performance and express their firm determination to defend the Cuban revolution and carry forward the spiritual heritage of Fidel Castro. Miguel Diaz-Canel, president of the country, attended the event.

The event started with video footage reviewing the life of Fidel Castro. Then, artists commemorated the great leader with poems, songs and dances. And audience stood up, applauded, sang songs and shouted the name of Fidel Castro to voice their remembrance and respect.

"We are here to reiterate our commitment to the revolution and Fidel. He will always live in our hearts. For all young people, what matters most is that Fidel is our driving force. Because he proved to us that we can have our own future, we can believe in ourselves, we can build the future by ourselves and revolution, and we can do all this without giving in to anyone.
