Beijing's competition venues for the 2022 Winter Olympics received a nod of approval from officials from the International Luge Federation (FIL) following their visit to the Chinese capital last week.

Einars Fogelis, president of the International Luge Federation and Dwight Bell, secretary general of the federation, visited China's National Sliding Center in Beijing's Yanqing District last Tuesday, and highlighted that the venues were well-equipped to host high-level competitions.

Fogelis had last visited Yanqing in 2019, when the competition venues were still a construction site.

"From the athletes' side, you provide all services that are necessary for the athletes, for the trainings, for the competitions in the highest level-when I put the questions directly after the visit to our athletes of how [they] feel. Both Fogelis and Bell expressed confidence in China's successful hosting of the Winter Olympics and backed China's target to engage 300 million people in ice and snow sports.

"We are looking forward for the strong partner here in China. We have plans, first of all, for joint programs for the development of the luge sports here in China. The second one, for development here in Asia and we use the track here in Yanqing and of course for our junior races here and the World Cup races here," said Fogelis.
