Storyline

The tickets of the Yuxi-Mohan section of the China-Laos Railway, a landmark project under the Belt and Road Initiative, started to be sold from 11:00 Thursday.

A flexible pricing system is introduced to the CRH train, with different prices in different seasons, dates and different time segments according to the market demand, with discount ranging from 10 percent to 45 percent.

The 1,022 km China-Laos Railway, scheduled to start official operation Friday, is an international railway directly connected to the Chinese railway network. It has 167 tunnels and 301 bridges.

The railway section in China starts from Kunming City in southwest China's Yunnan Province, goes southward through cities of Yuxi and Pu'er and Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna, and ends in Mohan Port.

In the south, it meets Boten in Laos, and continues southward though Louang Namtha province, Oudomxay province, Luang Prabang, Vientiane province to reach Lao capital of Vientiane.

"There are 50 new stations along the line, of which Mohan Station is a port station,” said Zheng Tianchi, deputy chief engineer of China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group.

The electrification realized digital control throughout the line, with the catenary system based on the BeiDou navigation system, infrared scanning and other technical devices. The data of the operation is uploaded in real time.

The railway line has the world’s first international railway tunnel emergency rescue station, which was built in Luang Prabang Province.

Upon the official operation, a cross-border freight train will be operated daily between Kunming and Vientiane, and point-to-point passenger trains will be operated between Vientiane and Boten and between Kunming to Mohan.

It takes five hours and 20 minutes from Kunming to Mohan at the fastest and 3 hours and 20 minutes from Boten to Vientiane at the fastest.

The railway has ended the history of no railways in the Pu'er City and the Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna.

It has also enabled Laos to leapfrog into the CRH era from only a 3.5 km railway that reaches its border with Thailand.
