China is capable of realizing its main economic targets despite downward pressures, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said as he met virtually with World Bank Group President David Malpass on Monday.
Noting that the central economic work conference was just held, Li said China's economic work next year will prioritize stability while pursuing progress, with efforts to coordinate stable growth, structural adjustment and promote reforms.
The country will continue to implement macroeconomic policies based on the needs of market entities, employ market-based legal methods and strengthen financial policy support for medium, small and micro enterprises and individual businesses, said Li.
Despite new downward pressure, China can achieve the main objectives and tasks for the year, he stressed.
China stands ready to work closely with the World Bank in funding and knowledge to support the 20th replenishment process of the International Development Association (IDA), and to take concrete actions to support multilateralism and global development.
For his part, Malpass spoke highly of the steady progress of the Chinese economy.
He thanked China for supporting the IDA's replenishment negotiations, and expressed wishes to continue sustainable cooperation and consolidate partnership with China.
Both Li and Malpass attended the 6th "1+6" Roundtable Dialog via video link on Dec. 7, which brought together heads of major international economic organizations to discuss global economic trends, governance, as well as China's high-level development based on the commitment of reform and opening-up.
