Storyline

China's cooperation with the international space community over the past five years has yielded fruitful results in various fields including space science, technology, and application, a Chinese official said Friday.

A white paper titled "China's Space Program: A 2021 Perspective" was published by China’s State Council Information Office, introducing the country's purposes, principles, policies, and measures, as well as its cooperative mindset in space exploration. It summarizes China's achievements in space science, space technology, and space application.

The people of China's space program are dedicated to working with their international colleagues to jointly promote progress in aerospace technology and sustainable development, according to deputy director of the China National Space Administration Wu Yanhua at a press conference on the release of the white paper.

"China and Russia jointly launched the International Lunar Research Station program. We have carried out extensive international cooperation in manned spaceflights, lunar exploration projects, and Tianwen-1 (Mars) missions, signed the BRICS Remote-Sensing Satellite Constellation agreement, successfully launched the China-France Oceanography Satellite and the China-Italy Electromagnetic Monitoring Experiment Satellite, and pressed ahead for the BeiDou system to enter the standard system of many international organizations such as civil aviation and maritime affairs," said Wu.

To improve the international community's capacity for disaster prevention and mitigation, data from the Chinese Gaofen-1 and Gaofen-6 remote sensing satellites have been offered free of charge.

China is supporting the aerospace development of developing countries in various ways and sharing its achievements in the field, according to the official.

"Data from the Chinese Gaofen-1 and Gaofen-6 remote sensing satellites have been offered free of charge 550,000 times to 158 countries and regions. Five Chinese satellites and three constellations have participated in the mechanism of the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters. China has also provided data from its meteorological satellites to 121 countries and regions," said Wu.

China has also made major contributions to mankind's space exploration cause through its satellites, lunar exploration, Mars exploration, and manned spaceflights programs over the past five years, the official said.

"The Huiyan Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope successfully obtained a panoramic view of the black hole binary explosion process. Science satellite Wukong obtained the precise measurements of the energy spectrums of cosmic ray electrons, protons, and helium nucleus. Seismo-electromagnetic satellite Zhangheng-1 helped to obtain data on and build models of the global geomagnetic field. A high-precision global carbon flux map was developed through the Chinese Global Carbon Dioxide Monitoring Scientific Experimental Satellite. The lunar exploration program revealed the subsurface structure of the far side of the moon and proved the existence of lunar magmatic activity two billion years ago. Satellites Taiji-1, Tianqin-1, and Xihe provided new means for the research of space gravitational waves and solar physics," said Wu.
