United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday extended wishes to the upcoming Winter Games, noting that the Olympics spirit is a beacon to human solidarity.
The Beijing Winter Olympics will officially open on Feb. 4, the fourth day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
In a video message, Guterres hailed the support of the China to the UN, and delivered best wishes to the country's upcoming Lunar New Year.
"Happy Lunar New Year! I'm pleased to send you my warmest greetings as we begin the Year of the Tiger. The tiger denotes strength, vitality, courage, tenacity and boldness. These are qualities we need as we face the unprecedented challenges of the day," said the UN chief.
He expressed gratitude for the contributions made by the government and people of China to the UN, while saying that he will attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics and look forward to safe and successful Games.
