Storyline

A mega railway bridge of the under-construction Guangzhou-Shanwei high-speed railway in south China's Guangdong Province was connected on Monday after a 65-minute rotation of the two connecting parts.

With a synchronous 77-degree turn, the two pier tops of the continuous beams were precisely connected 33 meters above the Beijing-Kowloon railway.

The bridge, which crosses the Beijing-Kowloon railway, the Changchun-Shenzhen expressway and a local urban trunk road, is a key project of the entire Guangzhou-Shanwei high-speed railway.

To reduce the impact of bridge construction on traffic security, the project adopted the swivel construction of its pier tops, which is relatively rare in domestic swivel bridge building.

The Guangzhou-Shanwei railway has a total length of about 206 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, and is a major part of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's high-speed transportation network.

Upon completion, the railway will connect the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway, the Beijing-Hong Kong high-speed railway and some coastal railways, further enhancing the railway network of the Greater Bay Area.

The travel time between the two cities of Guangzhou and Shanwei is expected to be shortened to around 40 minutes from the previous two hours via the high-speed railway, benefiting all passengers along the route.

In addition, the railway will contribute to the comprehensive transportation system of the Shenzhen-Shanwei Cooperation Zone and strengthen the economic connection between the Greater Bay Area and eastern Guangdong region.
