"Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are one family with blood ties. It is the common aspiration of compatriots on both sides of the Straits to defeat the epidemic as soon as possible and return to normal life. The mainland has always been concerned about the life, health and safety of Taiwan compatriots and is willing to do its utmost to help them tide over difficulties. When there was a shortage of masks, vaccines and rapid screening reagents in Taiwan, the mainland was eager to meet the needs of Taiwan compatriots and expressed its willingness to donate and assist them in a timely manner, demonstrating sincerity, goodwill and friendship of the compatriots."

"The DPP authority has always refused and blocked the mainland's offer to provide much-needed epidemic prevention supplies, vaccines and quick screening reagents to the people of Taiwan. The DPP authority has always put their own political interests above the health and well-being of the people of Taiwan. The DPP authority has lost their mind in 'turning against everything about the mainland', which will only further endanger the lives, health and safety of the people of Taiwan, resulting in serious consequences."

Storyline

Chinese mainland on Wednesday rebuked Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for putting political interests above people's lives and health by refusing COVID-19 prevention supplies from the mainland.

The epidemic situation in Taiwan now is grim with the number of confirmed cases hitting new highs. However, the DPP authority remains rejecting the mainland's assistance including supply of rapid screening reagents.

In response, Zhu Fenglian, the spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday that the mainland has expressed its willingness to actively assist relevant enterprises in Taiwan to negotiate with relevant mainland manufacturers for purchasing rapid screening reagents.

When there was a shortage of masks, vaccines and rapid screening reagents in Taiwan, the mainland was eager to meet the needs of Taiwan compatriots and expressed its willingness to donate and assist them in a timely manner, demonstrating sincerity, goodwill and friendship of the compatriots," said Zhu.

"The DPP authority has always refused and blocked the mainland's offer to provide much-needed epidemic prevention supplies, vaccines and quick screening reagents to the people of Taiwan. The DPP authority has always put their own political interests above the health and well-being of the people of Taiwan. The DPP authority has lost their mind in ‘turning against everything about the mainland’, which will only further endanger the lives, health and safety of the people of Taiwan, resulting in serious consequences," said Zhu.
