A joint statement passed by the participated countries reaffirms that multilateralism is an important way to deal with global challenges of climate change. The statement also stresses that developed countries should take the lead in mitigation actions, fulfilling their climate funding commitments, and respecting the development rights and policy space of developing countries and countries in economic transition. The statement opposes the politicization of climate change, unilateralism and protectionism in any form, and emphasizes that BRICS countries will work to enhance cooperation on climate change, broaden cooperation areas and deepen cooperation content.
The participating countries introduced their climate policies and actions at the meeting. Huang Runqiu, Chinese Minister of Ecology and Environment, said China has always attached great importance to tackling climate change, implemented the national strategies, promoted synergy in reducing pollution and carbon, continuously optimized the energy structure, and actively participated in and promoted global climate governance. China is willing to work with BRICS countries to continue exchanges and cooperation and make positive contributions to the global response to climate change.
Xie Zhenhua, China's special envoy for climate change affairs, said the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC to be held in Egypt in November this year will be an important meeting in the multilateral climate process.
