Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Sunday that the "Indo-Pacific strategy" hyped by the United States is doomed to fail while triggering global vigilance and concerns.
Wang made the remarks at a press briefing with Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in Guangzhou City in south China's Guangdong Province.
Wang said the "Indo-Pacific strategy" is triggering more and more vigilance and concern in the international community, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.
It is due to the revelation of its purpose of the so-called "strategy" featuring hegemony and stoking geopolitical confrontation, according to Wang.
It is not only trying to erase the title of "Asia-Pacific" and the effective regional cooperation architecture in the region, but also trying to erase the achievements and momentum of peaceful development created by the concerted efforts of countries in the region over the past decades, which is now plain clear to all, Wang said.
Wang emphasized that people in the Asia-Pacific region still remember conflicts and confrontations dominated by hegemony, and now they are pursuing national stability and happiness.
There is a general reluctance among Asia-Pacific countries to take sides, and the prevailing voice is that all countries should live in harmony and pursue win-win cooperation, said Wang. He added that the trend of the times in the region is to advance regional integration and build an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.
Wand said facing fluidity and transformation in the world, the region has maintained overall peace and stability, as Asia was the first to break out of the shadow of pandemic with its GDP growth reaching 6.3 percent in 2021. This has not come easily, thanks to the solidarity of Asia-pacific countries and the hard work of its people, he said.
Wang said under the banner of "freedom and openness", the "Indo-Pacific strategy" concocted by the U.S. is keen on building small circles.
Claiming to "change China's surrounding environment", it actually intends to contain China and make Asia-Pacific countries serve as pawns of U.S. hegemony, said Wang.
Wang pointed out that what is particularly dangerous is that the U.S. sheds its disguise, provokes and plays the Taiwan and South China Sea cards, and tries to confuse other regions and then the Asia-Pacific region.
Facts will prove that the so-called "Indo-Pacific strategy" is in essence a strategy to make separatist movement, incite confrontation and undermine peace, said Wang. He stressed that no matter how it's packed, it is doomed to be a failure.
The people of this region should tell the U.S. that the outdated Cold War scenario should never be repeated in Asia, and the turmoil and war that are taking place in the world should never happen in this region, Wang said.
